SOUTH ORANGE, NJ--In recognition of Sterling Properties' outstanding work on the New Market project, New Jersey Future will honor The Avenue, along with The Marketplace at Eden and the Township of South Orange Village, with a 2009 Smart Growth Award.
Selected by an independent jury, which includes representatives of New Jersey Future’s Board of Trustees as well as other respected professionals in development and planning, the 2009 Smart Growth Awards recognize those projects, groups and institutions that produce economically prosperous, environmentally sustainable and socially equitable places. All Smart Growth Awards nominations receive careful consideration by New Jersey Future’s Awards Selection Committee.
This year’s award recipients will be honored during a ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, June 3 at the Newark Club in Newark, NJ.
In building The Avenue at South Orange, a transit-oriented condominium community located across from South Orange’s NJ Transit Train Station, Sterling has created a cornerstone of the town’s New Market project — a comprehensive revitalization program underway for South Orange’s Central Business District and the property that surrounds the train station.
In addition to The Avenue, South Orange’s New Market project also includes the new 13,500-sf Eden Gourmet Market on South Orange Avenue and a parking deck that will be used to accommodate residents and shoppers, as well as fundamental streetscape improvements and more efficient land use for retail and residential amenities.
Once completed, The Avenue will comprise 79 condominium residences, featuring one to three bedrooms and ranging from approximately 700 to 2,500 sf in size. Select homes will also feature private outdoor terraces.
The first floor of the three-story building will house a state-of-the-art fitness studio, exclusively available to residents of The Avenue. Additionally, the building’s ground floor will feature prime retail space that will provide residents with access to daily conveniences and contribute to the enhancement of South Orange’s retail base.
